Number 5 is alive

the Observer
Test finished!
you chose BZ - your Enneagram type is FIVE.

"I need to understand the world"

Observers have a need for knowledge and are introverted, curious, analytical, and insightful.

How to Get Along with Me

  • Be independent, not clingy.
  • Speak in a straightforward and brief manner.
  • I need time alone to process my feelings and thoughts.
  • Remember that If I seem aloof, distant, or arrogant, it may be that I am feeling uncomfortable.
  • Make me feel welcome, but not too intensely, or I might doubt your sincerity.
  • If I become irritated when I have to repeat things, it may be because it was such an effort to get my thoughts out in the first place.
  • don't come on like a bulldozer.
  • Help me to avoid my pet peeves: big parties, other people's loud music, overdone emotions, and intrusions on my privacy.

What I Like About Being a Five

  • standing back and viewing life objectively
  • coming to a thorough understanding; perceiving causes and effects
  • my sense of integrity: doing what I think is right and not being influenced by social pressure
  • not being caught up in material possessions and status
  • being calm in a crisis

What's Hard About Being a Five

  • being slow to put my knowledge and insights out in the world
  • feeling bad when I act defensive or like a know-it-all
  • being pressured to be with people when I don't want to be
  • watching others with better social skills, but less intelligence or technical skill, do better professionally

Fives as Children Often

  • spend a lot of time alone reading, making collections, and so on
  • have a few special friends rather than many
  • are very bright and curious and do well in school
  • have independent minds and often question their parents and teachers
  • watch events from a detached point of view, gathering information
  • assume a poker face in order not to look afraid
  • are sensitive; avoid interpersonal conflict
  • feel intruded upon and controlled and/or ignored and neglected

Fives as Parents

  • are often kind, perceptive, and devoted
  • are sometimes authoritarian and demanding
  • may expect more intellectual achievement than is developmentally appropriate
  • may be intolerant of their children expressing strong emotions

Son of a.... Bill Gates was right!

(NOTE: This is a techy post.. feel free to skip to the next blog if you don't like those)

I like my xbox. It's fun to play games on. I'm even debating on whether I should upgrade to the xbox 360. I am not, however, a Bill Gates fan. I upgrade to the latest office/OS only when I absolutely need to. I try and keep as many virus scanners/spyware scanners around to try and clean up the security holes that they leave behind. Bill Gates though, is a visionary. I just finished reading an article over on IGN about next gen DVD.

The latest scuttlebut is that the Hollywood Studios are pushing to require that Blu-Ray and HD-DVDs use HDMI or DVI connections to see the full resolution of the movie. They want this for the copy protection benefits that those formats can employ. If you don't use the HDMI or DVI the disc will play at a lower resolution (sub 720p).

My TV only has 1 HDMI spot and it's being used for cable. I don't know of to many TV's that have more than 1 HDMI. If it's a choice between DVD or cable I'm going to have the hi res on cable (only because I don't watch DVDs that often). I think a lot of people feel the same way and I feel bad for the format because it's not going to be widely adopted. People are going to go through a downloadable subscription model (like on demand) and that means Bill Gates was right. He had the 360 come with a normal dvd drive because he wanted to skip the Next Gen disc and go straight to download.

I just hope you can't get a virus from the movie.

Let's play a game

Guess the name of this Apprentice contestant:

The 2nd Day of Potluck

Well, the potluck didn't go as I had thought. It was more of a catered thing. It was still really good food though. Just not what I expected.

My wonderful wife really wanted me to have my potluck though, so she is currently in the process of making me deviled eggs, sliced ham, and I'm not sure what else.

One of the many reasons why I love her so.. she's always trying to do things to make me happy.

Potluck

This Sunday after service our church is going to have a pot luck and I am so excited I think I nearly wet myself. I don't know why I like potlucks so much. Maybe it's because you get to try so many different foods, maybe it's because it's (mostly) home made. Maybe it's because I get to eat. Whatever the reason it's going to be great.

The first potluck I can remember was when my family visited the Sebastian CoC for the first time. They were having their annual fish fry. Tom Sawyer (I swear that was his name) would take his boat to lake Okeechobee every year and fish for a solid day or two. The day after (which would be Saturday) the church men would go and skin/fillet all the fish. Then on Sunday Tom would fry all the fish as well as make hush puppies. This was on top of all the other pot luck type items.

Maybe it was a bit naive but I had just assumed that a potluck was a CoC special. Apparently it's a church wide thing (which I'm very thankful for). I wonder if certain food items cross (non)denominations as well..such as the fruit salad, sliced ham, deviled eggs, of course the Holy bird a bucket of KFC chicken.

Shayna doesn't get to excited for them. That's ok..just more for me.

Another other timeless potluck dishes I missed?

more distractions

How did Adobe get it's name? Perhaps it was the name of the creek that ran behind the founders homes..How they named their companies

This guy used google earth to find his favorite movie locations. Twin Pines Mall from Back to the Future is a nice touch.

The Bar - Yet another one of those Get out of the Room puzzles..

Sneaky and the Bandit

For those of you who don't know Sneaky, he's a pretty large cat. A veritable snow leopard in our 1 bedroom apartment. He has taken on the Mighty Gator (mother in law's Pitt bull dog) and barely escaped. After that loss though, he's been on a rampage.

I thought for sure Foxy was going to meet her maker when those two met on the battlefield.

He defeated the Orange Cat Next Door during his brief stint in Fredericksburg, VA using his cat like reflexes, and stealth capabilities to pounce on the intruding cat.

Who knows what other numerous conquests he has had during that 9 months. I thought for sure Sneaky was the kind of cat that ruled the roost. With his white cat-armour he protected this house.

The next victim in the long line would be Bandit (his birth name is Bullet. Shayna refused to change the name to Wizard at my request..but she did see the humor. Ike was a short lived name..in fact Bandit was officially dubbed last night in a ceremony that involved a 77 Pontiac Transam Firebird, Excalibur, and late night cat nip).

So as we opened up the cage to let Sneaky have his way with the latest foe, I was nervous. I was worried that we might have to call the adoption agency and let them know their cat lasted all of 40 minutes. But as we opened the door the most amazing thing happened. Sneaky looked at Bandit, Bandit looked at Sneaky, and then Sneaky bolted like a lightening flash to the bedroom to hide under the bed.

Mighty warrior indeed.

For those of you looking for the latest in distractions..here's blueprint. Fun, yet frustrating

An important announcement regarding the size of our family..

This post will be a bit on the short side I think. Only because when you have news such as this, it's best to just get right to the point. Pass around the cigars. We are announcing a new boy in our family that is 5 months along. Here is the picture if you are interested in these such things.

We were thinking the name of Ike but I don't know if we are going to stick with it. If there are any ideas please shout em out.

Game Theory at it's finest

Ever wonder what Russell Crowe was writing on the windows in "A Beautiful Mind"? Why it was game theory. I had to take a class on it during college. Of course I never had to write a paper like this.

The Olympics started this weekend. I was bummed that Apollo Ohno didn't make the finals in short track. I was glad to see us get the gold in half pipe.

Does it seem like we're just adding events so we can get more medals? That sounds easier than trying to beat the other countries.

Tony K on MNF

Tony Kornheiser has been announced as one of the announcers for ESPN's Monday Night Football. I don't know how I feel about this.

It seems like MNF has always had some jokes in the booth to keep people entertained. All they actually do is say stupid stuff (a la Dennis Miller). I really like Tony Kornheiser though. He is funny, and he knows a little something about sports (although not as much as others).

I hope it works out.

Superior Brain Power

So while at the grocery store last night, as I waited in line to checkout, I saw a magazine. The magazine was the 2006 yearbook. I thought about purchasing it so that I could read what would happen this year and then make bets. If only I would use my superior brain power for the forces of good rather than for greed.

Does anyone else get self conscious when they reach checkout? I was purchasing some milk, shredded lettuce, cream horns, and Catalina dressing. It looks like a meal in itself (although a very poor one..one fit for a bachelor). I wonder what the checkout people think or if they even bother paying attention.

For instance if you just purchase some preparation H then the checkout person has got to know about your business. Do they talk about it?

Check out person 1:Hey Frank, I had this really hot girl come through my check out lane. Most beautiful girl I've ever seen.

Check out person 2:That's Hot

Check out person 1: The downside is that all she purchased was some preparation H and beano

Check out person 2: That's Not

Are you self conscious now?

Last night on Scrubs there was an Air Band. This is so awesome. Who wants to make an air band? (bonus points on if you know who the drummer is (he's only been in 2 movies))

Enough jibber jabber. Go burn something up

little somethin somethin

Took a sick day today. I hate being sick. The good part is that I get to supply you with distractions..

For those of you who like figuring out the movie where the actors have been taken out. This will be to easy.

So the Super Bowl hasn't even happened yet and already the Broncos are viable trade options for Terrell Owens and Ricky Williams. Shanahan is determined to trade away our second 1st round pick.
