Work outs

CB had a good blog post the other day about working out. I hate going to "work out". It's funny because I like the effects of the workout. The same was true when I played sports in HS. I hated going to practice, but going to practice is what made the games more fun (especially when we mollywopped the other team).

Why is it that we hate the prep for the big event but we love the big event (this is true of pretty much any big event: weddings, parties, games, even Christ's return. The only time it's not true is for a funeral, but then you're dead so what do you care?).

The strangely un-ironic thing is that the people who are good at practice are the best at the event. Jerry Rice was renowned for his work ethic during the week. It showed on game day his entire career. Maurice Clarett is not known for this work ethic..I hear he trying to strike a plea bargain.

So if we know that we work out/practice/work hard we will be successful and we don't do it, does that mean we don't want the success or prize?

Am I weird because I really like to work out?

  2. I think it's because we're lazy...or at least I am. I want to get in better shape, but I don't want to have to get on the treadmill or do pilates...I want my body to magically get in better shape...why do you think there are so many diet pills out there? And all those contraptions that are supposed to make you have firmer muscles without actually having to work out?

  4. One of my favorite quotes is from Bobby Knight of all people, "The will to win isn't nearly as important as the will to prepare to win." Try not to imagine him screaming it with copious amounts of spittle flying and it's actually quite profound. :-)

My first foray into the world of Carl's blog --
Since I've started riding my bike to school I have a mental battle every morning over whether the weather is nice enough for me to ride. Actually, the argument has nothing to do with weather because if it's actually too bad I know it. Weather is really just my excuse for not riding, Funny thing is though, that on days i do ride i always feel better, but on days I don't I always regret it. Yet the next morning I wake up and have the same mental debate. I need a shrink.
